Guest Review - The Christmas Spirit by Susan Buchanan

Guest Review by Sarah Pritchard

What They Say:

Christmas is coming, but not everyone is looking forward to it.

Rebecca has just been dumped and the prospect of spending the holiday period with her parents is less than appealing.

Eighty- two year old Stanley lost his beloved wife, Edie, to cancer. How will he cope with his first Christmas without her?

Jacob’s university degree hasn’t helped him get a job, and it looks like he’ll still be signing on come New Year.

Workaholic Meredith would rather spend December 25th at home alone with a ready meal and a DVD box set. Can anything make her embrace the spirit of the season?

The enigmatic Natalie Hope takes over the reins at the Sugar and Spice bakery and café in an attempt to spread some festive cheer and restore Christmas spirit, but will she succeed?

What Sarah Says:

This was a great festive read.  I really enjoyed it and it reallygot me in the Christmas spirit and made me feel uplifted and happy.

I liked that the story looked at different types of people and how they experience Christmas.  The characters were brought alive and I found myself drawn in to each of their stories.  I loved that it covered an array of different people that I think everyone can relate to knowing at least one of these characters.  My heart went out to Stanley who was spending his first Christmas without his wife and I could also relate to Jacob who didn’t have a job or money having just graduated university.  I loved everything from the name of the bakery café (Sugar & Spice) to Natalie who was like a Christmas fairy godmother!

Each story was brilliantly written and as well as almost been believable as 5 separate stories they were fabulously entwined within 1 book.  I loved each character and was sad when the book ended as I wanted to carry on living their lives with them and finding out how things continue to turn out for them.

This book is wonderfully merry and a must read for everyone who loves a good Christmas read.

About The Author

I always loved creative writing from about the age of seven. I started writing Sign of the Times 10 years ago, mainly whilst I was on holiday. After 5 years, I took a year off work to finish it and redraft and edit it. Finally in March 2012, I took the step of putting it on Amazon for the ebook market. It's been a long journey!

The Dating Game I wrote pretty relentlessly over six months full-time and it launched in Nov 2012.
I already have plans for a further five books, one of which will be a sequel to Sign of the Times. My third book The Christmas Spirit released on 1st Dec 2013. My fourth book is already in progress and is expected to be released towards the end of 2014.

Thank you Sarah for your great review.
