The Sorcery Code by Dima Zales

I would like to thank Xpresso Book Tours for sending me a copy of this book and allowing me to take part in the book tour for this book.

The Sorcery Code by Dima Zales
Publication date: December, 2013
Genres: Adult, Fantasy, Romance

What They Say:

From the internationally bestselling authors who brought you the Krinar Chronicles comes a captivating tale of intrigue, love, and danger in a world where sorcery is entwined with science . .

Once a respected member of the Sorcerer Council and now an outcast, Blaise has spent the last year of his life working on a special magical object. The goal is to allow anyone to do magic, not just the sorcerer elite. The outcome of his quest is unlike anything he could’ve ever imagined – because, instead of an object, he creates Her.

She is Gala, and she is anything but inanimate. Born in the Spell Realm, she is beautiful and highly intelligent – and nobody knows what she’s capable of. She will do anything to experience the world . . . even leave the man she is beginning to fall for.

Augusta, a powerful sorceress and Blaise’s former fiancĂ©e, sees Blaise’s deed as the ultimate hubris and Gala as an abomination that must be destroyed. In her quest to save the human race, Augusta will forge new alliances, becoming tangled in a web of intrigue that stretches further than any of them suspect. She may even have to turn to her new lover Barson, a ruthless warrior who might have an agenda of his own . .

What I Say:
I was sent this book to be part of a blog tour, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Right from the first chapter when Gala (not her real name as she is from the spirit relam) lands on Blaise's carpet, I was pulled into a magical faraway world.

Blaise is a dissolutioned sorcerer who left the sorcery council after the death of his brother, he is trying to find a way to bring magic to the ordinary people, hence the creation of Gala.  There is a sexual tension bubbling just under the surface of these 2 characters, that I'm sure will build in future books.

It also introduces us to Augusta (another sorcerer and Blaise's ex fiancĂ©), as far as Blaise is concerned she is one of those repsinsible for his brothers death, this is given in more detail in the book.  I don't think she is essentially evil just set in her ways and unwilling to change.

It also introduces us to Barson, Capt of the Guard and Augustas lover, he is a total macho type but sense there is more to him than the book gives away.

The book by chapter switches between these 4 main characters and shows them all in an interesting light, giving insights into each of their characters and building towards future books.  There are other characters in the book that I am sure will play an ongoing part of the story.

All in all a good opening to these books, it will be interesting to see which way the author will take the story.

4 out of 5 stars.
